Inclement Weather Policy

The MetroWest YMCA makes every effort to keep our building and services open during our regularly scheduled hours. However, all days won’t be sunny and bright, so we have adopted the following Inclement Weather Policy in the event of extreme weather conditions.

FACILITY CLOSINGS AND DELAYED OPENINGS

If the Y experiences a power outage or if weather conditions are such that it is unsafe for staff and members to get to the Y, the MetroWest YMCA’s leadership staff will make a decision to close or delay opening by 4:00am on weekdays and by 6:00am on weekends. The YMCA’s voicemail and all other communications (see below) will reflect this decision.

PROGRAM CANCELLATIONS AND DELAYS FOR CLASSES

If the Framingham Public Schools have a delayed opening:

  • All programs and group exercise classes scheduled will run.
  • Child Watch will be open.

If the Framingham Public Schools are closed for the day:

  • All programs and group exercise classes scheduled before 3:30pm are cancelled.
  • Child Watch will not open for the 8:00am-1:15pm shift.
  • A decision about whether to run the afternoon and evening classes or open Child Watch for the evening hours will be made by 2:30pm.

If the Framingham Public Schools have early dismissal due to weather:

  • A decision will be made and posted by 2:30pm in regards to programs and group exercise classes with a scheduled start time of 3:30pm and later.

Program Note:

  • Swim Team & Keefe Tech Swim Lessons:  Please check your email regarding updates.
  • Youth Basketball Leagues: Please check your email regarding non-school day weather related decisions.
  • Travel Basketball: If the public schools are closed, these programs will not run.

If the extreme weather occurs on a non-school day:
(Weekends, Holidays, School Vacation Days & Framingham Professional Development Days)

  • The Y’s leadership staff will make a decision whether or not to cancel any programs by 4:00am during the week and by 6:00am on the weekend. The YMCA’s voicemail and all other communications (see below) will reflect this decision.

EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS CANCELLATIONS AND DELAYS
EARLY LEARNING CENTER & SCHOOLS OUT

In the case of inclement weather, please call for a voice mail message for Framingham based programs at the Framingham Branch (508-879-4420) or for Hopkinton based programs at the Family Outdoor Center (508-435-9345) for cancellation or delayed opening changes. If poor weather develops during the day, parents and guardians may be asked to pick up their children early. The MetroWest YMCA also reserves the right to close early or consolidate programs and/or classrooms due to low attendance.

As many of you already know, we use an alert system called “Remind” to help contact you quickly in the event that inclement weather or another emergency impacts our Educational sites.  Our plan is to send out alerts ONLY when there are closures, changes in hours of operation, or when something significant and time sensitive takes place.
