Gymnastics
The Recreational Gymnastics Program is designed for toddler, pre-k, and kindergarten aged boys and girls. The introduction of gymnastics at this age teaches skills that will help kids excel in every sport. Classes emphasize practicing safe and correct gymnastics skills and moves. The recreational program focuses on increasing body awareness, motor skill development, spatial awareness, patience, balance, and coordination. Youth will use age appropriate equipment to learn important gymnastics fundamentals in a fun and creative way. They do not necessarily use all of the equipment that the older kids use due to safety restrictions.
Our program is designed to provide a safe, nurturing environment for children and youth to develop gymnastics skills as well the four YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. Gymnasts who are ready to take their skills to the next level can get involved in competitive gymnastics where the whole person is developed and competition and winning are kept in healthy perspective.
Our progressive gymnastics program is based off of the guidelines set forth in the USAG women's artistic gymnastics curriculum (there is no national YMCA gymnastics program). This program introduces more independent work on bars, beam, floor, and vault. Children also learn about the importance of strenth and flexibility as an important aspect of athletics as a whole
Our gymnastics program is designed to teach gymnastics skills in a progressive manner, so that participants feel success along the way and are ready for new skills at the appropriate time. Our Competitive Team competes regionally and our gymnasts work on routines designed by the USAG Junior Olympic program.
