Run for the MetroWest YMCA

Boston Marathon April 18, 2022

The MetroWest YMCA serves Ashland, Framingham, Hopkinton, Holliston, Natick, Sudbury, and Wayland. We have a range of programs in the community that serve basic needs (food program) to programs that support healthy living, like chronic disease prevention.

We are a proud official charity of the Boston Athletic Association, and over the past six years our running teams have helped raise funds that have an immediate impact back on the community.

Run for the Y and raise funds to support programs that help families and individuals in the community access food, prevent chronic disease, and support children's learning out-of-school.

Runners interested in a MetroWest YMCA invitational entry must be 18 years old or will be on April 18, 2022, be able to complete the course in 6 hours; and, confident that can meet the $7,500 minimum fundraising goal for the Y programs. Also, entrants will need to provide proof of vaccination prior to participating in the marathon.  To be considered fully vaccinated entrants must have completed a vaccination series of a World Health Organization-certified vaccine prior to bib number pick-up (Friday, April 15, 2022).

Selected runners will receive training support and participate in weekly long runs with experienced coaches through the Marathon Coalition; support from prior year runners including insight on training and fundraising; nutrition support and much more.

Y Support and team orientation – Teammates meet one another, learn more about the Y and receive fundraising information and training guidelines at a kickoff event. We have a dynamic group of experienced health and wellness staff who will be with runners during the five month training cycle. If you are not already a member of our Y, you will receive a complimentary membership through the April 18th, 2022 Boston Marathon.

Fundraising guidance – The MetroWest requires each of its runners to raise a minimum of $7,500, but many commit to raising more. Staff members regularly check in with runners regarding their fundraising progress. They offer advice, suggest opportunities for collaboration, and help everyone maximize their efforts.

Coaching and group runs – Through regular check-ins and training runs, the Y’s runners physically and mentally prepare for Boston with support from the Marathon Coalition. The Marathon Coalition is led by experienced coaching staff who organize weekly training runs in Newton. They provide strategies for tackling the course on race day as well. Every Saturday there is a group long to help build your endurance.
