Open Climb

Come join us for a great night of games, climbing and community! Our Rec Lodge is transformed into an exciting place of entertainment and physical activity.  Participants have the opportunity to ascend to the top of our climbing walls and participate in many other activities including basketball, gaga, and giant Jenga.  


WHO: Anyone at all! If you can be appropriately harnessed, you may climb. For those who do not want to climb or who cannot be appropriately harnessed, other activities from gaga to Giant Jenga are happening all over the Rec Lodge. 

**Families bringing friends must have a waiver signed by the friend's guardian** 

WHERE: Rec Lodge via North Entrance (see map to the right)

WHEN: Fridays, 6:30 - 8:30pm (Sept 2019 - June 2020)

Members: Free

Non-Members: $10/person or $30/family



There may be additional climbs during vacation weeks. 

  • Wednesday & Thursday, December 26th and 27th, there will be additional climbs during the day from 1:30 - 3:30 PM. Bring your family! Bring your friends!
  • PRIZES FOR BEST HOLIDAY THEMED COSTUMES for Hanukah, Christmas, Kwanzaa, Solstice, & New Year’s Eve!


To prepare for our camp sessions, June 5th will be the last day of open climb for the season.


No Registration Necessary.  This is a Drop-In Program



Adult Belay Class

The Family Outdoor Center is now offering belay classes for adults.  Once a participant passes the course they will have the ability to belay their family and approved guests during Open Climb. 

Training: $30/person (cost covers annual refreshers)

Times: May be scheduled at any time, including weekends. Contact Abby Biser (508.435.9345 x104) to set up a time that works for you!

*This class covers only belay skills which may be used at the Family Outdoor Center under the direct supervision of approved YMCA staff.

Ken hails Upstate New York, but has had the joy of living in the Pacific Northwest, Hawaii, and Virginia. After serving eight years in the Navy, he graduated from Old Dominion University in 2015 with a Master’s in Education. Ken is an Eagle Scout, and brings 10+ years of outdoor education, high ropes and summer camp experience.  In his free time, he enjoys kayaking, biking and hiking all over New England with his fiancée Alyssa.
