Matter of Balance (MOB)

Is an evidence based educational program that helps older adults manage their fear of falling. During the class participants learn to view falls as controllable, set goals for increasing activity, make changes to reduce fall risk at home and exercise to increase strength and balance. Simple exercises are started in week 3 and continue to week 8. The class is 8 weeks and meets for 2 hours at each class. Call or email to learn about upcoming class dates and times.

Moving for Better Balance

A fall prevention program for older adults. The class uses the principles and movements of Tai Chi to help older adults increase strength, balance, flexibility and the confidence in performing everyday activities. The class meets for 16 weekly sessions, bi-weekly sessions and into monthly sessions up to 1 year.

A group exercises program developed specifically for older adults. The exercises focus on the four areas of fitness, endurance, flexibility, strength and balance.  The program was originally designed to help with arthritis but evidence has shown that the exercises reduce the risk of falls in older adults. The class meets 3 times a week for 16 weeks.

The program is offered free with a YMCA membership and has a fee for non-members with the option to apply for financial assistance.
