Would you like to see a YMCA after school program in Holliston?

Dear Holliston Families,

The MetroWest YMCA has been asked to open a new EEC licensed School’s Out after school program in Holliston.  We are very excited about this opportunity and once we have confirmation that there is sufficient interest, we will make a final decision.  Here is some basic information about the program we would offer:

Who: Children in kindergarten through 5th grade who attend Placentino and Miller Elementary Schools.

What: The holistic daily program schedule would include at least 30 minutes of physical activity, a healthy snack, opportunities for children to complete their homework and children will participate in a wide variety of hands-on and project based learning experiences prioritizing STEM/STEAM, health & nutrition, arts education, service learning, teambuilding, leadership development, college & career exploration, and global learning & inclusion.  Based on the interest of the children and community, single time enrichment activities and multi-session clubs may focus on specific themes, interests, or concepts such as performing a puppet show written by and using puppets created by the children enrolled or a junior astronaut-training program that includes creating a hovercraft and constellations diagrams.  Personal technology such as phones and chrome books will only be available with adult supervision for homework or for specific activity objectives.  Family events would take place three times per year.

Where: At dismissal from school, Holliston Public School buses would transport children to the Christ the King Church, 600 Central Street, Holliston, where they would participate in a wide range of activities in the Church’s classrooms, function hall, and outdoor spaces.  If there is interest from families, on early release days, children would be transported to the MetroWest YMCA’s Family Outdoor Center, 45 East Street, Hopkinton, for experiences with archery, rock climbing, nature trails, teaching kitchen and more.

When: The program would start school release and we anticipate it ending at 6:30pm.  Families could choose 2, 3, 4, and 5 day options with early release days included.  Vacation, snow day, and summer camp programming is also available.

Why: Our focus on youth development means that we consider the whole child as we create a welcoming, safe, and enriching experience. Children explore new opportunities and build relationships with children and adults, build confidence and growth mindset, and improve academic success and social-emotional skills.

Lead by whom: We hire our educators carefully and include comprehensive background record checks.  Our onboarding process and ongoing professional development include an emphasis on developing positive relationships with individual children, youth development & positive guidance, health and safety, and child protection.

How much:  We anticipate the weekly cost for children enrolled 5 days per week from Placentino to be $150 and from Miller to be $165 including transportation.  Part week rates would be prorated based on the 5-day rate.  Please note these rates are approximate and will not be finalized until a decision is made.  Financial assistance is available.

Families interested should complete the questionnaire as soon as possible.  Our goal is to finalize our decision by Tuesday, February 25.
