Turning Feelings Into Forecasts: A Special Weather-Themed Project ABC Playgroup with Author Kadian James
The MetroWest YMCA's Project ABC program will welcome author and licensed clinical social worker Kadian James, LICSW, co-author of the children’s book What’s the Weather Inside of You?, for a special weather-themed playgroup at the Morse Institute Library on March 20, 2026, from 10:00 AM- 11:00 AM.
The event is free and open to the public, and families with young children are invited to participate in hands-on activities designed for different stages of early childhood development while learning simple tools that help children recognize, express, and regulate their emotions.
James is a licensed clinical social worker, author, and founder of Freedom Happy Counseling, LLC, with more than a decade of experience in high-intensity clinical settings. Her professional background includes serving as Director of Mental Health in a correctional facility and as a Court Clinician in the Massachusetts trial courts, supporting individuals impacted by trauma and substance use. In her private practice, she works with families to build emotional wellness and resilience.
A mother of three daughters, James drew on both her clinical expertise and personal experiences—including two preterm labors and navigating divorce—to co-author What’s the Weather Inside of You? with her children. Using the metaphor of weather, the book helps families talk about feelings in everyday moments, offering practical strategies to help children name emotions, regulate responses, and reconnect during times of stress.
During the playgroup, families will hear from James, explore activities inspired by the book, and practice simple strategies that support emotional literacy and connection at home.
