MetroWest YMCA Honors Community Champions, Volunteers, and Youth Leaders
On Wednesday, May 20, the MetroWest YMCA welcomed more than 80 Y volunteers, members, staff, and community partners to its Annual Meeting where individuals and organizations were recognized for their leadership, generosity, and service. The evening highlighted the power of collaboration and volunteerism, presenting community awards recognizing specific people and organizations whose partnership helps move the Y’s work forward.
The Community Champion Award was presented to Scalora Consulting in recognition of the organization’s strong partnership and its deep commitment to values that align closely with the Y’s mission of strengthening communities. The award honors businesses and organizations that positively impact children and families through philanthropic giving, volunteerism, and community leadership.
For several years, Scalora Consulting has worked alongside the Y to help expand opportunities and resources for local families. Most recently they have played an important role in helping guide the vision for the future Team Hoyt Community YMCA in Ashland forward, supporting efforts to build momentum, strengthen community partnerships, and navigate the approval process. Their leadership, shared values and commitment to community impact have helped move the project close to becoming a reality for the region. Representing Scalora Consulting at the event were Amy Clarke, Vitoria Darnell, Keri DiLeo, and Steve Notarangelo.
The Community Partner Award was presented to the Framingham Public Schools CONNECT Program, a transition-focused special education initiative for young adults. Over the past two years, the CONNECT Program has partnered closely with the Y to provide meaningful experiences for students through wellness activities and internships across departments including nutrition, childcare, and member services.
Y staff highlighted the dedication of the CONNECT teachers and staff, who coach and mentor students as they develop workplace and life skills. The partnership has also provided valuable support to the Y while creating inclusive opportunities for participants to thrive. Representatives recognized included Natalya Mains, Kyle Wilson, and Krista Brother.
Four outstanding individuals were honored with Volunteer of the Year Awards for their dedication to strengthening the YMCA community.
Linda Houley was recognized for her years of support for Y's Parkinson’s program and her leadership welcoming others to participate in wellness activities. Besides helping participants feel comfortable and connected, Linda and fellow members learned sign language to better communicate with a participant who is deaf, exemplifying the Y’s commitment to inclusion and belonging.
Elaine and Mike Dion were honored for their active volunteerism and unwavering commitment to building community wherever help is needed most. Whether supporting families in the Nourishing Nook food pantry, assisting at events like Healthy Kids Day and the Rodman Ride for Kids, or stepping in behind the scenes, they consistently help create welcoming spaces where individuals and families can connect and thrive. Their willingness to lend a hand in so many areas has made a meaningful impact across the organization. Staff described the couple as “amazing” for their dedication, generosity, and community spirit.
Div Parekh was recognized for his leadership in developing engaging and inclusive programs at the Hopkinton Outdoor Center. Through his work alongside staff and volunteers, Div helped expand opportunities for community members to connect, stay active, and build relationships in a welcoming outdoor environment. His efforts strengthened participation, enhanced the overall experience for families and individuals, and contributed to a strong sense of community at the Center.
The Y also presented its Changemaker Awards to five young leaders whose actions are making a meaningful difference in the community.
Johnny Lozada was honored for his work in the membership department, where he greets members with warmth, positivity, and personal connection. Known for remembering members by name and engaging visitors in friendly conversation, Johnny has become a familiar and welcoming presence at the YMCA.
Daniel Ruback was recognized for his growth and dedication through the Y’s Changemaker Program and Member Services team. Staff highlighted his strong work ethic, willingness to learn, and positive approach to teamwork and feedback.
Nailah Randolph was celebrated for her professionalism, reliability, and leadership within the Member Services and Childwatch teams. Staff praised her maturity, and commitment to creating a positive environment for members and colleagues alike.
Sisters Isabella and Elizabeth Mendez were honored for their exceptional work as summer camp counselors, where they help ensure every child feels welcomed, valued, and included.
“The Annual Community Awards remind us that the strength of the Y comes from the people and partners who show up every day to support one another,” said Rick MacPherson, President and CEO of the MetroWest YMCA. “Together, these honorees are helping build a stronger, healthier, and more connected community for all.”
